Aljaz Skorjanec was born in Ptuj, Slovenia on February 19th, 1990. As a child he was quite and observant, and expressed himself mostly through sports. 

 

It was at an early age that Aljaz found dancing. He was only 5 years old, when he signed himself up to a local dance class. It was only after being contacted by the dance instructor that Aljaz's mother found out he had attended. The instructor wanted to suggest that Aljaz take dance lessons at a proper dance school, as he demonstrated great natural talent! 

 

So at a very young 5 years of age, Aljaz was taken by his parents to attend International Dance Center Fredidance. This dance club was 2 hours away on a train from Aljaz's home, and he attended it 3 to 4 times a week! This commitment to travel so far for lessons went on from his primary school years, into the end of his high school years. His coaches were Fredi and Daniela Novak, who are known worldwide for their amazing coaching abilities. So although it was a long way from home, it was the perfect training for a young and talented Aljaz.

 

He met his dance partner, Valerija Rahle early on in his training and the two quickly flew to winning various championships! They became 19 time Slovenian Champions in Ballroom, Latin, and 10 dance! Aljaz represented his home country Slovenia in many international dance competitions, and won numerous titles! He's strong commitment, impeccable technique, and passionate performances in competitions made him the exemplary dancer he is today! His talent was not unnoticed, as he was approached to be a Professional Dancer in the Slovenian version of Dancing with the Stars, which became his first television appearance.

 

After he finished competing, Aljaz auditioned to become a member of the Broadway and international touring show, Burn the Floor. The producers fell in love with his charismatic and technical dancing, and shortly after, he was a lead dancer on the show. He was a part of the Burn the Floor for 4 years, dancing in stages globally, and winning the hearts of his audiences everywhere. 

 

Burn the Floor went on to perform in the West End in London, England. Here is where Aljaz was noticed by of the producers of the BBC1 hit TV series, Strictly Come Dancing! Not long after watching his passionate performance, Aljaz was casted as a Professional Dancer on Season 11 of Strictly Come Dancing, and won it with his celebrity dance partner Abbey Clancy! He can still be seen as a Professional Dancer on the show today.
